In these cases, you have both the right and choice to tell us to:

Our uses and disclosures

How do we typically use or share your health information?

Treat you. We can use your health information and share it with other professionals who are treating you, including laboratories, imaging centers, pharmacies (including compounding pharmacies that prepare medications your provider prescribes), and specialists we refer you to. Example: Your bēon provider sends a prescription to the pharmacy you choose, or shares your visit summary with your primary care provider at your request.

Run our organization. We can use and share your health information to run our practice, improve your care, and contact you when necessary, including appointment reminders, test result notifications and messages about your care. Example: Our clinical team reviews your intake answers before your visit to prepare your provider and decide the right type of visit.

Bill for your services. We can use and share your health information to bill and get payment for your services, including through our payment processor. Example: We use limited information about your visit to process your payment.

Business associates. We work with companies that perform services for us, such as our electronic health record, patient portal, telehealth, scheduling, communication and payment providers. We share only the information they need, and they must protect it under a written agreement with us.

Telehealth and electronic communication. When you receive care by video, phone or secure messaging, your information is handled with the same protections as in-person care. If you ask us to communicate by regular email or text message, those methods may be less secure; we will honor your preference and use the minimum information necessary.

How else can we use or share your health information?

We are allowed or required to share your information in other ways – usually in ways that contribute to the public good, such as public health and research. We have to meet many conditions in the law before we can share your information for these purposes.

In all cases, including those listed below, if we have substance use disorder patient records about you, subject to 42 CFR part 2, we cannot use or share information in those records in civil, criminal, administrative, or legislative investigations or proceedings against you without (1) your consent or (2) a court order and a subpoena.

Help with public health and safety issues. We can share health information about you for certain situations such as:

Prescription drug monitoring. When required by state law, we report prescriptions of certain controlled substances to the state prescription monitoring program, and we may check it before prescribing.

Do research. We can use or share your information for health research, under the conditions the law requires.

Comply with the law. We will share information about you if state or federal laws require it, including with the Department of Health and Human Services if it wants to see that we’re complying with federal privacy law.

Respond to organ and tissue donation requests. We can share health information about you with organ procurement organizations.

Work with a medical examiner or funeral director. We can share health information with a coroner, medical examiner, or funeral director when an individual dies.

Address workers’ compensation, law enforcement, and other government requests. We can use or share health information about you:

Respond to lawsuits and legal actions. We can share health information about you in response to a court or administrative order, or in response to a subpoena.

State law

Louisiana and Kansas law may give certain information more protection than federal law. Where state law is more protective, we follow it.
